HBC Rewards Card

For my final post for my blogging project (which is WAYYY Overdue at this point but oh well it's up to the teacher on whether or not she'll accept this anyways with a huge percentage loss that is...) I've chosen the HBC Rewards Card (Because I don't really have a lot of customer loyalty cards in my wallet so now I've decided to talked about some of the other reward cards that are avaliable for you to join).

The HBC Rewards card was created by the Hudson Bay Company for it's loyal customers to use to earn points for use to purchase items online and in store.

Like the Shopper's Optimum card, you will earn a point for every dollar that you spend which you can use to convert into an HBC Gift Card. When you start off, you begin at Tier 1 in which you basically earn $1 dollar per dollar spent on a purchase. Once you start getting into higher tiers, you will earn better rewards and better discounts. By the time you reach Tier 3 (which is currently the highest level that you can attain), You will earn double the points for every dollar spent. However, in order to maintain your level, you must continue to shop at these stores while still fufilling the minimum yearly requirement (ex. Spending at least a total of $500 a year on a minimum of two separate visits). More details on the requirements and benefits are listed on this link here

To turn your points into gift cards, you must have a minimum of 2000 points before your can convert it into a gift card. Gift cards start at $10 and currently goes as high as $100 and unlike Optimum Points (in which their point to dollar conversion is uneven and a huge ripoff in my opinion), HBC Reward points go up in even increments of 2000 all the way up to 20 000 points (which is also the equivalent of $100).

The HBC Rewards cards also comes in a credit card format (just like with Shopper's Drug Mart and with their reward cards but in a debit card format instead of a credit card format) and it works the same as the regular rewards card but with the addition of having bonus points added to your credit card statement every six months, as well as a lower interest rate when you purchase outside of Hudson Bay (and any other store that's under the brand such as The Bay).

HBC Rewards Cards can be purchased online or at your local Hudson Bay (or related brand) store.

Shopper's Optimum Card

The Shopper's Optimum is a Loyalty Rewards Card that is given by Shopper's Drug Mart which allows you to earn points on almost anything that you buy in the store.

For every dollar that you spend in the store you will earn 10 Optimum Points and you can even use those points to buy products in store at no additional cost.

Also with your Shopper's Optimum card, you also get access to exculsive events and special offers that are reserved for card holders such as the Senior's Day event and at Points events in which you can earn up to 20 times the points that you normally earn in store.

You can also use your debit card (RBC only) to earn double the points even faster when you open up a Shoppers Optimum bank account (For only $10.95 a month). In addition to the benefits that you get with a regular Shoppers Optimum card, you can also earn points at any other store that you shop at (However the number of points that you earn elsewhere is equivalent to how much you actually spend ($1 = 1 point instead of $1 = 10 points @ Shoppers Drug Mart). Once you sign up for this special banking account that you can also use to earn Optimum points, You will earn 50 000 Optimum points to start you off.

Personally I find their point earning system to be a very tedious one. You would think that by spending let's say... $300 at Shopper's Drug Mart would earn you 3000 Optimum points according to how their points system works right? Apparently not, because when I actually went back online to check the conversion rate between points and the actual dollar value that it's worth, for 8000 points you would actually only be able to spend $10 worth of merchandise in the store (So I guess 3000 Optimum points is actually worth around $2 or something I don't know either way, I just find these points to be highly worthless unless you have accumlated a ridiculous amount of points to spend on actual merchandise). So bascially if I ever wanted to spend my points on a perfume that I liked, I would probably have to accumulate close to 70 000 Optimum points before I can buy it with my points for no additional cost.

Whether you think the Optimum Rewards Card is right for you is completely your decision, but if I were you, I would pass on it since it will take you a very long time before you can get anything decent with your rewards points (unless you attend every 10x or 20x points event that they have).

You can get the card at your local Shopper's Drug Mart location or online at this link

SPC Card

The SPC Card (Student Price Card) is a loyality discount card that is used by students to receive discounts on stuff such as food, fashion, travel, and more.

For just $9.00 a year you too can join in on the savings that you can get whenever you show your SPC card to participating retailers. The type of discount that you receive depends on the store that you are shopping at. The percent that you save off of your bill can vary from 10%-20% and some stores may have different discount rates for items that are currently on sale or in clearance. Some stores may not offer a percent discount and instead offer the option to upsize your meal for either no cost or at a significantly smaller amount than you normally would have to pay without the card (this only applies to certain food restaurants and certain items in the restaurant).

The SPC card is currently being accepted at over 100 locations across Canada and is avaliable for purchase at select participating stores. The card is valid from August 1 to July 31 at which point a new card must be purchased in order for you to continue receiving discounts from the participating stores. The store lineup (as well as the discount given) changes every year so be sure to check the website to see what stores are currently offering discounts as well as the type of discount that they are offering.

Welcome!

Hi! My name is Tiffany and this blog is about Customer Loyality Programs and what they are about. I chose this topic because there wasn't much else to pick on the list of topics that I could blog about for my Communications class and since I don't really have any idea on what else to blog about, I decided to do this topic instead. I also picked this topic because I have collected quite a few loyality cards in my wallet from various stores and I just thought I could share a few of the loyalty card programs that I actually know about.

But before I even tell you some of the avaliable different cards avaliable for you to join, you're probably wondering, What is a Customer Loyality Program? Well, a Customer Loyality Program is bascially a program in which rewards customers whenever they shop at a specific store. Rewards can vary from price discounts, to reward points which can be accumulated to purchase more items in the future.

Check back later to learn more about the different types of cards used as part of Customer Loyality Programs.
